Text Service

Timetable information is now just a text message away. Passengers can find out which buses will be leaving their local stop via a text message sent direct to their mobile phone.

Whether at home, work, or out and about, simply text an 8-digit bus stop reference code to 84268** and you will get back the departure times of the next few buses from your chosen stop. The service is automated and operates 24 hours-a-day, every day.

For those stops without a code and yet to be updated, bus passengers can still find out their local stop code by calling Traveline on 0871 200 22 33*.

How do I find the bus stop reference code?

Bus stop reference codes are unique, so information received relates only to one specific bus stop. You might want to pick the stop nearest to your house, the stop you use to get to work, or even the stop nearest your favorite pub/restaurant. All codes are 8 digit numbers. Codes are available in a variety of ways, one of which is from the bus stop or by contacting your local transport authority via the home page of this site.

* calls cost 10p per minute from BT landlines, charges from other providers or mobiles may vary

** 25p for the reply message plus your normal text message sending rate

How does it work?

Find your stop

Enter either a postcode, a street and town (eg Broad Av Leicester), or a stop code if you know it.

Browse stop list

Use the map or the list to work out which bus stop you want. Make sure you choose the stop on the right side of the road for your journey. Click on the relevant stop from the results list. On most phones, you can also press the corresponding number on your phone keypad.

If you have searched by a street name and town, there may be many results. If you can't find the stop you wanted, or the results aren't where you expected, scroll down your screen to view other locations. If you still can't find your stop, refine your search (eg by using a postcode).

Departure board

You will now get the times of the next buses leaving the stop. Live information is shown where available (eg "in 6 min"), otherwise the scheduled departure is shown as a time (eg "08:31").

You can click on one of the route numbers to see more bus times on the same route.

The other options on the screen allow you to look at nearby stops or start a new search.

You can bookmark the departure board on most phones for 1-click use in future.

What does it cost?

This service is free, apart from any normal data charges made by your mobile operator (contact your operator for details)

It does not work on my phone

If you can't get mobile internet on your phone, you can check the next buses from a particular bus stop by using our contact centres or text service.
